Last updated: May 5, 2026

DiscoverWrite (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates DiscoverWrite (“the platform”), a collaborative discovery-writing service connecting Writers and Readers. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have regarding your information. By using the Platform, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this Policy.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide Directly

When you create an account or use the Platform, you may provide us with:

  • Account information: your name, email address, username, and password.

  • Profile information: a bio, profile photo, or other details you choose to add to your public profile.

  • Payment information: billing details such as credit card numbers and billing address, collected and processed securely through our third-party payment processor (e.g., Stripe). DiscoverWrite does not store full payment card details on its own servers.

  • Content you submit: Chapters, Author Feedback, and any other text you publish through the Platform.

  • Communications: messages you send to our support team or feedback you provide.

1.2 Information We Collect Automatically

When you use the Platform, we automatically collect certain technical information, including:

  • Log data: your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URLs, pages visited, and timestamps.

  • Device information: device identifiers and settings used to access the Platform.

  • Usage data: which stories and chapters you view, claim, or unlock; how long you spend on the Platform; and other interaction data.

  • Cookies and similar technologies: we use cookies and local storage to keep you logged in, remember your preferences, and understand how the Platform is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though disabling them may affect Platform functionality.

1.3 Information from Third Parties

If you choose to sign up or log in using a third-party service (such as Google), we may receive basic account information from that provider, such as your name and email address, in accordance with their privacy settings.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your account and authenticate your identity.

  • Provide and operate the Platform, including processing chapter submissions, managing claiming and locking mechanics, and enabling reader access to content.

  • Process payments, calculate, and distribute Writer earnings.

  • Send transactional communications, such as account confirmations, billing receipts, and chapter submission notifications.

  • Send platform updates, new feature announcements, or promotional communications where you have opted in to receive them.

  • Monitor and improve Platform performance, safety, and user experience.

  • Detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent activity, abuse of the chapter claiming system, or violations of our Terms and Conditions.

  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our policies.

3. How We Share Your Information

3.1 Public Information

Your username and the Chapters you publish are publicly visible on the Platform by default. Readers and other Writers can see which chapters are attributed to your account. Your email address and payment details are never made public.

3.2 Service Providers

We share information with trusted third-party service providers who help us operate the Platform, including:

  • Payment processors (e.g., Stripe) for handling subscriptions and Writer payouts.

  • Hosting and infrastructure providers for storing and serving Platform data.

  • Analytics providers to help us understand how the Platform is used.

  • Email service providers for sending transactional and marketing communications.

These providers are contractually required to handle your information securely and only for the purposes we specify.

3.3 Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, court order, or government authority, or if we believe in good faith that such disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of DiscoverWrite, our users, or the public.

3.4 Business Transfers

If DiscoverWrite is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via email or a prominent notice on the Platform before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

3.5 With Your Consent

We may share your information in other ways if you have given us explicit consent to do so.

4. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Platform services. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain it for legal, financial, or fraud prevention purposes.

Published Chapters attributed to your account may remain visible on the Platform after account deletion, in an anonymized or pseudonymized form, to preserve the integrity of collaborative Stories that other Authors have contributed to.

5. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • Access: request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.

  • Correction: request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete information.

  • Deletion: request that we delete your personal information, subject to certain exceptions.

  • Portability: request that we provide your data in a structured, machine-readable format.

  • Objection or restriction: object to or request that we limit certain types of processing.

  • Withdrawal of consent: where processing is based on your consent, withdraw that consent at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at the address listed in Section 11. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.

You may opt out of marketing emails at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any such email or by adjusting your notification preferences in your account settings.

6. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use the following types of cookies on the Platform:

  • Essential cookies: required for the Platform to function, such as keeping you logged in and maintaining your session.

  • Preference cookies: remember your settings and choices across visits.

  • Analytics cookies: help us understand how users interact with the Platform so we can improve it.

You can manage your cookie preferences through your browser settings. Opting out of analytics cookies will not affect your ability to use the Platform. Disabling essential cookies may prevent certain features from working correctly.

7. Data Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. These include encrypted data transmission (HTTPS), secure storage of passwords, and access controls limiting who within our organization can view personal data.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you believe your account has been compromised, please contact us immediately.

8. Children’s Privacy

The Platform is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under the age of 18. If we become aware that we have collected information from a minor, we will take steps to delete it promptly. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us.

9. International Data Transfers

DiscoverWrite is operated from the United States of America. If you access the Platform from outside this jurisdiction, your information may be transferred to and processed in a country with different data protection laws than your own. By using the Platform, you consent to such transfers. Where required, we implement appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses to protect transferred data.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by posting a prominent notice on the Platform. The “Last updated” date at the top of this Policy reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the Platform after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised Policy.
