F.A.Q.
How does it work?
DiscoverWrite operates under a unique process, based on the “pass the paper” game. We use a step by step system to achieve this on a platform level:
-
A user submits Chapter One, and that user chooses the tags and warnings appropriate for the story. For example, if someone does not tag for “Aracnophobia (Spiders Allowed)”, no writers are allowed to add spiders to their chapters of the story.
-
A moderator reviews the chapter, making copy-edits and ensuring there’s no content that breaks the ToS. The moderator may Approve, Reject, or in some cases, request Revision based on dev-edits made by the moderator. The author will receive an email regardless.
-
Once Chapter One is approved and uploaded to the site, a different author who has read Chapter One submits Chapter Two, based on Chapter One, and the Chapter One author’s tags. Each chapter goes through the same moderator review process.
-
Moderators on a story decide when a story has reached a natural stopping point, and will personally write the ending. A poll will then be opened for all authors who contributed to the story for whether or not a sequel is opened.
-
Once a story is complete, it will be published as an Ebook/Paperback, with every contributor credited. Revenue from the published books is pooled into the quarterly revenue share bonus for all authors.
Why would I be asked to make revisions?
First and foremost, our goal with DiscoverWrite is to empower all authors and take the stress and time commitment out of publishing. That said, we’re also operating on a professional level, and the quality of the chapters needs to reflect that.
That said, we encourage amateur authors to submit to our platform, because every professional was an amateur once! If we reach out to you for revisions, it means we see your vision and your passion, and we want to support you. The Developmental Edits provided to you are an opportunity for growth as an author.
How does payment work?
Our payment method is based on percentages of total revenue. 10% is retained by DiscoverWrite to help with the costs of running and growing the website. The remaining 90% of revenue is distributed to the authors, based on the percentage of chapters on the site they’ve written.
For example, if total site revenue for the month is $1,100, DiscoverWrite is entitled to $110, and the remaining $990 is distributed among authors. If an author’s chapters account for 20% of the chapters on the DiscoverWrite platform, the author is entitled to $198 (subject to processing fees).
DiscoverWrite, as of May 8th, 2026, is a new platform, and we intend to update the payment model as we grow. We intend to be up front about this now, and we will communicate this clearly when the time comes.
When we update the payment model, the amount DiscoverWrite is entitled to will reduce to 5%. 85% of total site revenue will be distributed among authors by total READS of their chapters on the platform, to reward high-performing stories. The remaining 10% of site revenue (with the addition of total Ebook and Paperback revenue) will be distributed among all authors on the platform, based on the amount of approved chapters they’ve written.
This change is intended to continue to support emerging authors, while also providing fair compensation to authors who are in high demand.
This change is unlikely to happen any time soon, as we will not be switching until incoming revenue is high enough for the 5% to pay for site costs and fair, reliable pay for additional staff.
What Payment Methods can you accommodate?
Currently, DiscoverWrite is only able to pay authors via Cash App or PayPal. At this time, we cannot accept submissions from authors who cannot receive payment via these methods. We DO intend to open more options as we grow.
What happens to my chapters if I delete my account?
If an account is terminated for any reason, we will update the “Chapter Author” to “Anonymous”. Chapters will remain on the platform, and in the Ebook and Paperback versions, for the sake of story cohesion. This is a collaborative process, and it would not be reasonable to remove previously written chapters from a story other authors are working on.
As long as your payment method on file with us remains viable (or you contact us to request a change in payment method), you will still be entitled to the income generated by your chapters. If your payment method becomes invalid, we will reach out to you via email to update it, and your earnings will be held for thirty days from the point of failure before your chapters are considered forfeit. Income from chapters considered to be forfeit will be absorbed by the revenue pool to be distributed among authors.
Can I write fanfiction?
No. Due to DiscoverWrite’s nature as a publishing platform, fanfiction cannot be permitted on the site. We love fanfiction, and consider fanfiction a great way to hone your skills as a writer, but it cannot be published on the platform.
What about AI?
Submissions suspected of AI use will be rejected. No AI is permitted on the platform. Due to the liability of AI use in publishing, this is a firm rule.
We understand that AI can be fun for personal use, however this site was designed to provide support and community for both growing authors and professionals alike to hone their skills and earn an income via low-stress publishing. The ghostwriting industry has been heavily damaged by AI, and this is intended at least in part as a haven for displaced working writers. AI use is antithetical to the purpose of our platform.
Can I have more than one account?
No. Due to the nature of our “no consecutive chapters” rule, we don’t want users operating on multiple accounts. You can, however, request an additional pen name for your submissions. We will keep the multiple pen names in your file so payment is correctly processed.
